Welcome to Faculty of Dentistry, University Of Nigeria Nsukka
Welcome to the Faculty of Dentistry, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria! We are the first and the only Faculty of its kind, South-East of Nigeria, dedicated to leading in Oral and Dental Health Care in the zone.
As the Dean, I am humbled for the rare opportunity to steer the ship of leadership of this budding Faculty and to build on the existing framework of my predecessors.
Though chequered, we give thanks as we consider our history a legacy. Challenges are many over the years, but we see in them as stepping stones to greatness.
As we strive to nurture the Faculty until it reaches the desired full stature that would be the pride of the people, we owe many thanks to both the Administration and all stake holders.
Our strength as a Faculty derives, not in numbers, but from the passionate engagement of our staff and students.
With a dint of hard work, determination and commitment, we aspire to be a top ranked Faculty of Dentistry, both nationaly and globaly.
As an emerging young Faculty, our Vision is to be one of the top-tire dental Faculties. While our Mission is student focused-learning that promotes patient centered care, through Research, Teaching and Learning, in a friendly environment.
Long Live Faculty of Dentistry!
Long Live College of Medicine!
Long Live University of Nigeria!
In February 1982, a proposal was made for the establishment of a dental department as part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Nigeria. The intention was that this would form the nucleus of a Faculty of Dentistry of the College of Medicine.
This proposal was later followed by the creation of Department of Dentistry, as part of Department of Surgery, under the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Dentistry.
In 1991, that one Department of Dentistry blossomed into three Departments, namely: Oral and Maxillofacial Facial Surgery, Preventive and Restorative Dentistry.
Prior to 2004, the School had graduated three sets of Dental Surgeons. With an unalloyed determination for growth, the University Senate, out of its wisdom, created a full fledged independent Faculty of Dentistry in 2004; in 2005, the Faculty birthed the forth Department of Child Dental Health, while machinery for the creation of Department of Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology, as the fifth Department, has advanced.
